Steps of Hope Sierra Leone (SOH-SL) is dedicated to removing the practical barriers that prevent vulnerable children in Makeni, Bombali District, from attending, participating in, and completing school.
We mobilize communities and partners to help vulnerable schoolchildren arrive safely, eat nutritious meals, obtain learning essentials, and remain engaged in education.

Long and Unsafe Journeys

A Story of Hope
A Safer, More Confident Journey to School
With informed consent, we share the story of a student from one of the communities we serve. The child regularly faced a long journey to school without suitable footwear or adequate learning materials. Working with the caregiver, school, and community representatives, Steps of Hope Sierra Leone assessed the situation and coordinated appropriate support.
The student received properly fitted shoes and essential school supplies, making the daily journey safer and helping the child participate more confidently in class. The caregiver also received information about available family and community services.
